The Best of 2011- Albums 13-6

As the year is now drawing to it’s close, the time has come. Here are the albums that kept my earbuds rocking this year. Presenting…

Jon’s lucky 13 for 2011!

Let’s tease a bit, and start with the bottom half.

13. The Joy Formidable, The Big Roar

Out of Britain, the debut from this alt rock shoegazer trio with elements of the Darling Buds, Hum and Curve.

12. The Rapture, In The Grace of Your Love

The Brooklyn electro punk rockers latest effort actually took me a bit to get into, but the tracks have some surprising hooks.

11. Neon Indian, Era Extraña

A clever trip down electronica/ chill wave way.

10. The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Belong

The Smashing Pumpkins met the Cure circa 1991 and  never sounded better. Or more innocent.

9. PJ Harvey, Let England Shake

Her Mercury Award winning disc is a love letter to Industrial Revolution England.

8. Junior Boys, It’s All True

Their happiest disc. From a bunch of misanthropes.

7. Destroyer, Kaputt

Steely Dan met Dave Koz behind the club and dropped acid. This was the result.

6. The Horrors, Skying

The third disc from these British post punk/ shoegazers is very sublime.

That’s the first half. Up next…. the top 5. Stay tuned!
