And here is the 4 of the top 5 albums of the year… according to me.
Each one has solid, brilliant tracks. There are surprises here, for you and I both. The important thing is that you need to listen to each of these more than once. The real effect comes after repeated listens. And they do hold up after repeated listens. That’s what makes them so fucking genius.
These are the albums that made 2011 for me.
Well, except for the best disc of the year. And folks, I’m going to make you wait a little bit longer for that one…
5. Real Estate, Days
An 11th hour discovery and quite a surprise, this is subtle, mellow and breezy, like a summer afternoon. Highly recommended.
4. Radiohead, The King Of Limbs
It took a few listens for this to really take. What brought it home was seeing them perform the tracks live. It’s solid work, and very well done. Perfect Radiohead.
Little By Little
3. Cults, Cults
A debut disc that is throwback of Motown girl groups on reverb. Catchy as hell. Heartbreaking and seducing.
You Know What I Mean
2. Cut Copy, Zonoscope
Probably my most anticipated disc of the year, and luckily it arrived early on. No disappointments here. Electro fun abounds.
Blink And You’ll Miss the Revolution
Take Me Over
So we’ve heard 12 of the top 13. And Number one comes next. I’m saving that for a post of it’s own. You’ll just have to wait and see.
