Electronic music pioneers Depeche Mode are scheduled to release their 13th full length, Delta Machine, in late March. According to interviews with Dave Gahan, Andy Fletcher and Martin Gore, it’s a step back towards their heyday sound, defined by the classic Violator and it’s follow up, Songs of Faith and Devotion (which, coincidentally, their last work with Alan Wilder).
The first single, Heaven, is certainly reminiscent of some of the finer moments from the Faith era like I Feel You, while still sounding current. It’s no where near the electronic zeitgeist of Personal Jesus or Enjoy The Silence, but really, I don’t think they can top those. That being said, I’m intrigued by what the rest of this new album holds. It sounds a hell of a lot more interesting than anything they’ve done in the past few years.
Thank you Pitchfork for the update.
