SOTD: Elastica, Stutter

Oh Justine, where are you now? How I miss you.

Our song of the day comes screaming out of 1995, when Elastica made a huge splash with their self titled debut album. Short tracks that were strong on hooks and riffs, it’s a brilliant statement of the indie rock/ post punk sound. Maximo Park, Cults, Ema and the Gossip all owe some thanks to Justine and company. In turn, you hear Rid Of Me era PJ Harvey, a little early Pixies/ Breeders and yes, some Wire in the group’s sound.

Stutter was the lead off track for the disc. It’s tight, crisp, intense, and still fresh today. Love this.
