tUnE-yArDs, Wait For A Minute

Merrill Garbus, aka tUnE-yArDs, is releasing her third album, Nikki Nack on May 6. From the sound of the infectious first single, Water Fountain, Garbus’ sound this time out is less abstract than previous work. That being said, the layers of percussion and synth are making for some catchy rhythms and textures.

The second track off the forthcoming album is a deeper cut, Wait For A Minute, and it’s hypnotic. Take a listen a few times through, you’ll hear different things: the crazy Thomas Dolby like synths, the Prince-like mid-80’s sleazy track, the forlorn lyrics with her gentle cooing vocals. It’s pretty freaking amazing. Subtle, definitely a song far from the beaten path of pop radio, and you will need a few listens through as it’s not immediate… but still amazing new music you should love.
