That Thom Yorke. Contrary to the what he may say on OK Computer, he’s always full of surprises.
Radiohead’s front man took to twitter a few days ago, leaking photos and artwork from the past. Yes, the band was recording in the studio, just starting on their follow up to The King Of Limbs. But so much activity all of the sudden, does that mean there’s new material coming out sooner than we thought?
And sure enough, yesterday, Thom drops a new solo album, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes. His first new solo work since 2009’s FeelingPulledApartByHorses single, the 8 track album is available for $6 via BitTorrent, or on vinyl at W.A.S.T.E..
The album is very much in the vein of The Eraser and his work with Burial and Four Tet rather than the Atoms For Peace side project last year. In that aspect it succeeds: Isolated, spare and understated are what come to mind, so not too much of a detour. Yes, it’s nothing groundbreaking, but rather comfortably familiar-in a good way- and frankly welcome. It whets the appetite as Radiohead prepares their next full length.
So here’s the link to the download at BitTorrent. The first track, A Brain In A Bottle, is available for free, but you’ll want the whole album. Check it out and enjoy.
