Radiohead, Spectre

Radiohead is anticipated to release a brand new full length album this year, and fortunately they ended 2015 with a potential preview of what’s to come in 2016.

Spectre is the band’s submission for the theme to the most recent Daniel Craig/James Bond vehicle of the same name, although the official title them ended up being performed by Sam Smith. It’s a shame, too, because the Radiohead take, while probably not exactly in line with film, is pretty spectacular. It’s akin to Kid A and Amnesiac era music… atmospheric, eerie, with an orchestral build to a near cacophony. It’s pretty stunning.

My anticipation for the new album is high, so this is a great warm up.

‘Last year we were asked to write a theme tune for the Bond movie Spectre.
Yes we were. It didn’t work out, but became something of our own, which we love very much.
As the year closes we thought you might like to hear it.
Merry Christmas. May the force be with you.’
