Nine Inch Nails has released a brand new EP, Not The Actual Events. It’s described by Trent Reznor as ‘unfriendly, fairly impenetrable.’ That it is.
The 5 tracks range from brutal to slogging, and is by far not the groups’ best work. But it does aims to bring with it a cathartic moment for all of the anger and frustration around the current events of our world right now. The one two punch of the opening two tracks reflect this perfectly. In Branches: Bones, he screams over fuzzed out guitar shredding about being trapped in a place that seems all too familiar and not in a good way; meanwhile, in Dear World, he observes that “yes, everyone seems to be asleep” to what is really going on.
I can relate to the sentiments. Thank you, Trent, for personifying it for me.
